Welcome to this new edition of the online Course "Accelerating the SDGs Localization"!

The world organization United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) is launching this new online course with updated contents and exercises. It has the main objective to enable the sharing between local and regional governments (LRGs) and their associations to accelerate the SDGs localization.

The course will be open to every person registered, leaving no one behind. This entails a greater diversity of visions and experiences that can only enrich the training.

This training is based on the 3 first SDGs localization learning modules, designed by UCLG, the Global Taskforce of Local and Regional Governments, UN-Habitat, UNDP. It is also an updated version of the SDGs online courses produced with the Barcelona Provincial Council in the previous years.

Target audience:

The training program is prepared primarily for local public officers in the fields of international relations, decentralized cooperation, strategic and public policy planning or any other field of government work related to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda. It also encourages the participation of profiles that guide and manage sustainable local development policies or programs at other public levels.

Course objectives:

By the end of the course, participants should be able to conduct SDG-compliant policies to:

· Mobilize local stakeholders to ensure ownership of the 2030 Agenda by local and regional governments around the world;

· Identify the benefits of localizing the SDGs in general local policy making and in development strategies in particular;

· Internalize the leadership culture of local and regional governments to achieve the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs;

· Gain practical knowledge in the managing instruments for localizing the SDGs: planning tools, advocacy tools, project implementation tools and monitoring and evaluation tools;

· Share their experiences in SDGs localization through VLRs, VSRs or VNRs.

Syllabus:

Chapter 0: Introduction to the Course and the 2030 Agenda;

Chapter 1: Global Goals and Local Commitments, based on the UCLG's SDGs Learning Module 1;

Methodology and profile:

Apart from the mentoring webinars, is NOT mandatory to be connected to the platform at specific times, so each participant may adapt the activities according to their own agenda.

Furthermore, this online course is clearly designed to be practical. Accordingly, there is a strong bias to generate effective exchange and interaction between the participants. The aim is that the participants' own experience operates as a pillar on which the training is structured. This combination makes it possible to delve deeper into the content through critical analysis, while encouraging the sharing of how SDGs localization can happen in different local contexts.

The training will take place over 5 months and will have a total duration equivalent to 72 teaching hours.

The students will participate in online discussions, mentoring webinars and develop several exercises and quizzes. Those who have completed the activities successfully will receive a certificate.
